The Country Liberals Government is inviting animal welfare organisations to apply for a grant under the Animal Welfare Fund. $200,000 in grant money is available for non-profit animal welfare organisations for projects which aim to improve animal well-being, raise community awareness of responsibilities in regard to animal welfare and help progress good animal management practice, including in remote communities.

On Tuesday 19 March 2013, Animal Welfare Inspectors executed a warrant at a Darwin River property in response to allegations of failure to provide a duty of care for animals at that location.
21 Feb 2013 | Animal Welfare strengthened in the Territory
Amendments to the Animal Welfare Act have come into force to further improve animal welfare in the Territory. Local Government Minister Adam Giles said the amendments address recommendations from the Council of Territory Cooperation Animal Welfare Governance subcommittee (CTC) and will result in an even stronger and more effective Animal Welfare Act and action on animal cruelty.

The welfare of animals in the Top End has been improved with the construction of new kennels. Minister for Local Government, Adam Giles, said the six kennels have been built in partnership with the RSPCA will provide temporary shelter for animals which have been seized or surrendered to animal welfare inspectors.
